If you hear bandwidths of 10 Megabits in, 5 megabits out, and think that that's the service you get in a third world country, this is not for you. This is for people who lust after 10 Megabit connections and can afford one or more consoles. This website shows you how to get creative with online games, and find ones they don't automatically get kicked off of.

Virtua Fighter V, a move varied fighter.

If you use the same starting pattern over and over against local people you play a lot, you're going to lose. Luckily online, you see each person once and move on. You're supplied with Fresh Meat each battle

Virtua Fighter is the most technical of 3D fighter where the characters don't run, jump, and basic attack differently from each other, but the list of specials take up a whole instruction page per character in the book. Some of these require a good joystick. Most require button dancing which you just have to learn the timing of to pull off, yet it only has 2 attack buttons and one block button.

Before discussing the technical performance of the online game, a note about the interface, you have to pick one character before you connect and have to be good with him/her. This doesn't leave you chance to pick random or improvise your pick. I have to deal with a very inconvenient interface to change characters online

You might lose a lot, but at least you can connect.

As with all online fighters with low internet, you'll have to act more than react. because 90% of thew game is the close game, with no fantasy projectiles, so you could feel blocking is more guesswork, or predicting opponent's patterns if they overuse a certain attack, and less about reaction. Plus the fact that there are so many moves, if you don't know your opponent, you can surprise them with a big move, but don't expect to pull it off twice unless you show 3 or 4 moves that have radically different "proper responses" (block high, block low, back off, trade for a throw, light jump attack, 3D move, etc.).

If you're there just to talk to friends old and new, and not looking to boost a record, this is okay. MAYBE the reaction time can be cleared up a little with a CRT TV. I don't know. The ping time of the network is slower than my Playstation 3D TV, but maybe that one frame would help. I'll have to test this with a faster connection too. But between the fact of picking one character and stick to him/her, too many moves to know an adequate strategy based on character tendencies against randoms, and the only way you can strategically react is if they overuse one move, plus certain moves being so hard to pull off that LOTS of practice is the only way to pull it off, which you will do because changing characters is tough, It was only a decent fighting game until Street Fighter came along, so it was good then, but looking back, I'd rather play Street fighter, or play VF5 locally against friends, so the rating is, despite being a deep game is 56KO mainly because of difficult offense and difficult defense, mainly made so by the network connection. It feels too much like a guessing game. Ironically, it's depth and precision makes it a great local fighting game, just not a great online one at my speeds.
